Main Contracting provides the core of our construction activity, with our project experience covering widely diverse sectors. We have built an extensive portfolio of valued Clients from both public and private sectors, many returning with repeat business following previous successful projects. We retain an outstanding reputation synonymous with quality and customer care. Read what our clients say

Our General Works Division is an integral part of our operations, covering a similar range of project types on a smaller scale to our Main Contracts division, and helping to ensure we can provide a holistic service to our Clients. General Works area of operations covers southern Hampshire and SE Dorset.

Development projects continue to play a significant part in our activity, with much of our development work now centred in the Devon and North Cornwall region, where we have established a reputation for outstanding build quality, and are now at the forefront of using innovative design solutions to provide sustainable contemporary homes.

Following a recent review of our Group governance and Board structures, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Phil Langdown as the new Managing Director of Herbert H Drew and Son Ltd.

Phil began his career with the Company in 1984, on a 4-year Trainee Surveyor apprenticeship, from where he quickly progressed into Estimating and Contracts Management. He was promoted to the Board of Directors in 1999, and since that time has actively managed many large contracts throughout the region, building strong long-term relationships for the business, whilst overseeing the Surveying Department, and holding additional responsibility for staff training and development.

Phil is taking over from Bill Rabbetts, who will remain as Chairman, prioritising his time on Group strategy, property development, and finding new business opportunities. As Managing Director for over 20 years, Bill steered the business to success even throughout challenging economic downturns, and with his extensive experience in the Industry will continue to bring valuable input and guidance.

Bill Rabbetts commented: "I am delighted that Phil has accepted his new role. He is highly respected within the Company and the wider Industry, has a deep understanding of our business and all it stands for, and is ideally suited to lead the Team in delivering against our exciting strategy for the future."

Phil commented: "I am looking forward to the challenge of taking Herbert H Drew into the next chapter of its history. I believe it will be a hard, but rewarding, journey. However, with the clear focus of our Strategic Plan we will be well placed to deal with the next challenges that this Industry will inevitably throw upon us, and to take advantage of the opportunities awaiting. I welcome this opportunity, and cannot wait to get started."

DREW is actively involved in a number of schemes making a significant contribution to the regeneration of Bournemouth Town Centre. The largest of these projects to date is the construction of 83 studio apartments and ground floor retail outlets on the site of the former Sorting Office in Albert Road. Construction is now well under way, with steelwork being erected. View our timelapse video (left) to see progress.

In partnership with ICEE we have been busy transforming derelict retail units and flats in Old Christchurch Road to create 16 high specification apartments and refurbished retail units. The Team are working ahead of programme with works likely to be completed during Spring 2016. Bill Cotton, Executive Director of Bournemouth Borough Council commented "It's fantastic to see DREW making such progress on site. This investment is another sign that Old Christchurch Road and Horseshoe Common are the up-and-coming parts of the Town Centre."

Further projects have included the recent completion of refurbishment to 22 St Peters Road, to provide high quality residential accommodation, and the reconfiguration of Vandale House - a derelict office building - to provide luxury apartments with balconies, over four floors. Read more on this.

This high-tech project is a collaboration between the College, Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), computer Company IBM and the University of Southampton. We are making good progress on site, with the steel frame up during February, and the roof now going on. The Centre is programmed for completion in time for the start of the 2016 academic year, and will feature cloud classrooms, virtual communities, real-time video conferencing, interactive classrooms and workspaces, and IBM's Technology Lab designed to aid collaborative learning. Designed by HNW Architects to meet BREEAM 'Excellent' standard, it will incorporate both passive and state of the art sustainable features.

Celebrations were in order following our recent win of a Silver Award at the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards, held in London. The prestigious awards ceremony was attended by Construction Industry professionals from across the UK, with our Client, Aster Group, and Architect / Project Manager, Ken Scaddan Associates also in attendance.

The awards scheme recognises registered sites that have raised the bar in considerate construction, showing the highest levels of consideration towards the public, workforce, and the environment. We collected the award for our work at Rosalind Hill House in Stockbridge, Hampshire; the project comprising refurbishment and conversion of partially occupied assisted living accommodation to provide 13 one-bedroom flats for older and vulnerable people.

Mike McCarthy, Aster Group Operations Director (property investment), said: "We worked closely with H H Drew throughout the redevelopment of Rosalind Hill House, to keep people living at the scheme and in neighbouring properties fully up-to-date on the project's progress....Being recognised nationally by the Considerate Constructors Scheme is an excellent achievement, and we would like to pass on our congratulations to H H Drew, and our thanks for all their hard work in transforming Rosalind Hill House."
